Carey’s caused was helped that he was an ALF player, his return from the ALF ranks was seen as a win in the war over young athletes. Not saying that is why he got picked but it was a help for him. Jimmy was never in the picture until later in life.

Pant is a horrible keeper. He is terrible to watch with the gloves. I would put Carey above him. He really looks like an unathletic batsmen who was just thrown the gloves before the game because there was no one else at times. But I think he missed less chances than Carey.

Number of dismissals is the most useless stat in cricket. Tells you nothing of the quality of the keeper.
Thing with Heals is he kept to prime Warnie, before the shoulder and finger injuries reduced the amount of turn he got regularly. Gilly still had to keep to an all time great bowler but it was a different challenge.

Neither of those two are close to the best keeper of all time. They were the best batsmen/keepers but their glove work is not the best of all time.

Carey sits above Wade and Phillips to me when judging glove work of Aus keepers since the 80s. He is worse than a lot of State keepers I have seen in that time

Nope, not correct, Smith was seen as a bowling all rounder. Maxi was seen as a white batting all-rounder at best

There is a whole system I would put in place to rate catches and fielders. It would be similar to the Statcast ratings from the MLB. There is a lot of factors that go into fielding that most either don’t consider or don’t know about
